I found this Forbes article about the three steps for a leader to be able to have great communication among other people. The article talks about how most leaders just give good speeches and try to motivate and encourage other people with an uplifting message. They also seem to forget that you cannot just talk and not listen and ask questions in order to receive good feedback. 50% of Extraordinary Leaders talk, 3% of them ask questions, and 0% percent of them do not listen. The ratings for listening and asking questions are really low and they need to be brought up. I always thought that in order to be a good leader, you have to constanly talk all the time. As I am taking my COMM courses and after reading this article, that is not the case. You have to balance all three steps in order to have effective communication. You are not exactly learning anything if you just talk all the time. As a leader or a person in general, you have to listen and ask questions in order to gain knowledge to teach to other people. That is how we learn and grow in life. Being proficient in these skills can be done with hard work, dedication, and always willing to keep going even when you make mistakes.
